Let’s get started!
– 4 pounds apples peeled, cored, and chopped – 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar – ⅓ cup water – 1 teaspoon cinnamon – Pinch of sea salt
1. Peel, core, and slice all apples. 2. Pour 1 1/2 cups water and 2 Tbsp sugar into a large stockpot. Heat over medium and boil to dissolve sugar. Add all the sliced apples, decrease heat to low, cover with lid, and simmer for 1 hour, stirring regularly.
3. Pour water over apples in a big pot. The water will soften the apples by steaming and simmering. 4. Simmer the apples over medium-low heat for 15 minutes, stirring regularly, until very mushy and breaking up.
5. Mash applesauce. Blend the apples until smooth to form a puree. Use a fork, potato masher, or immersion blender to lightly crush apples for chunky applesauce. 6. Before refrigerating or freezing, let it cool to room temperature.
