Cola Cake Recipe
Equipment
- Saucepan
- Large mixing bowl
- Whisk
- Spatula
- Electric Mixer (optional)
- 9×13 inch baking pan
- Cooling rack
- Toothpick
- Knife
- Serving platter
Ingredients
- 1 cup coca cola
- ½ cup canola oil
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- ½ cup mini marshmallows
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs room temperature
- ½ cup buttermilk or coconut milk if desired
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Warm the oven up to 350 degrees. Put Coca-Cola, oil, butter, and cocoa in a sauté pan. Set the heat to medium-high and cook until the mixture boils. Once it starts to boil, turn off the heat.
- Then add the marshmallows and mix them in with a whisk until they melt. Set the mixture aside.
- Put sugar, flour, and salt in the mixing bowl and mix on low speed. Pour the hot cocoa mixture in slowly and keep mixing until the speed reaches medium.
- After that, beat in the vanilla extract, eggs, buttermilk, and baking soda until everything is well mixed.
- Spray non-stick baking spray on a 9×13 sheet cake pan. Spread out the cake batter in the pan after you pour it in.
- Put it in the oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick stuck in the middle comes out clean.
- The cake still has about 10 minutes to bake. In the meantime, put the rest of the butter, cocoa powder, milk, Coca-Cola, vanilla extract, and confectioners’ sugar in a pot over medium-high heat. Whisk the ingredients together until they boil and are well mixed.
- Take the cake out of the oven when it’s done baking and pour the hot filling on top. Let it cool. After that, cut it up and serve it.
Notes
- Like nuts? A sprinkle of toasted pecans would be tasty on top, even though it’s not usual.
- If you serve this cake with vanilla ice cream, it will take you to the gates of heaven and back again.
- When you put the filling on top of the cake, it should still be hot from the oven.
- For the best taste, use high-quality chocolate powder.

How Long Does a Piece of Cake Last?
A piece of cake typically lasts for about 3-4 days when stored at room temperature in an airtight container. It can last longer, up to a week, when refrigerated. However, the texture and flavor may change over time. For longer storage, consider freezing the cake, where it can last for several months if properly wrapped.
Can I Use a Different Type of Cola or Soda?
While Coca-Cola is traditionally used for this recipe, you can experiment with other colas or sodas for a different flavor. Keep in mind that the flavor profile may vary depending on the soda used.
