Can I Use Regular Rice Instead of Instant Rice?
Yes, you can substitute regular rice for instant rice in this recipe. However, you may need to adjust the cooking time and possibly increase the amount of liquid (water or broth) used, as regular rice takes longer to cook than instant rice. Check the casserole occasionally to ensure the rice cooks properly.
What Can I Substitute for Cream of Mushroom Soup if I Don’t Have It?
If you don’t have cream of mushroom soup, you can substitute it with an equal amount of cream of chicken or cream of celery soup. Alternatively, you can make a homemade white sauce by combining butter, flour, milk, and seasonings to achieve a similar creamy texture.
Can I Freeze Mamaw’s Chicken & Rice Casserole?
Yes, you can freeze this casserole for future meals. Prepare the casserole as directed but do not bake it. Instead, cover it tightly with foil or transfer it to an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and then bake it according to the recipe instructions.
