  • 3 Tbsp Granulated Sugar
  • 1 ¼ Tsp Ground Cinnamon divided
  • 16 Slices 100% Whole Wheat Bread from a 16-ounce loaf
  • 1 12-ounce Can Fat-Free Evaporated Milk (or light coconut milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 Cup 2% Milk or whole milk, or full-fat coconut milk for dairy-free
  • 6 Large Eggs
  • ¼ Cup Pure Maple Syrup
  • 1 Tbsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • Zest of 1 Small Lemon or 1/2 Orange
  • ¼ Tsp Kosher Salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and arrange the bread slices on two large baking sheets in a single layer. Toast for 8-10 minutes, switching the pans halfway through. The bread should be dry but not browned. After toasting, cut the slices diagonally and let them cool slightly.
