- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 cups white sugar
- 5½ lbs apples - peeled, cored and finely chopped
Place the apples in a slow cooker.
In a separate bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and salt, then pour the mixture over the apples and stir until well-coated.
Cover and cook on High for an hour.
After that, reduce the heat to Low and let it cook, stirring occasionally, for 9 to 11 hours until the mixture becomes thick and dark brown.
Uncover and continue cooking for another hour on Low.
For extra smoothness, whisk the mixture if needed.
Once done, transfer the apple butter to sterilized containers and refrigerate or freeze for later use.
