For the Donuts:
- 1 ½ cups All-purpose flour
- ¼ cup White sugar
- 2 tsp Baking powder
- ½ tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 Egg
- ½ cup Milk
- 2 tbsp Melted butter
- Pinch of nutmeg optional
- Oil for frying
- Cinnamon sugar for coating
For the Cream Cheese Filling:
- 1 cup Powdered sugar
- ¼ cup Softened cream cheese
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- ¼ cup Whole milk
For the Donuts:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder.
Stir in the egg, milk, and melted butter until combined, but don’t over-mix the batter.
Heat oil to 375°F in a deep skillet or cast iron pan.
Using a teaspoon, drop small amounts of batter into the hot oil, frying 5-6 at a time. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.
Fry for 2-3 minutes, turning once, until golden brown.
Remove the donuts and drain on paper towels, then roll them in cinnamon sugar while still warm.
For the Cream Cheese Filling:
In a large bowl, whip the softened cream cheese and vanilla until smooth.
Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until well combined.
Stir in the milk, adding just enough to reach a smooth, pipeable consistency.
Fill a piping bag or squeeze bottle with the frosting. Gently insert the tip into each donut and fill with the cream cheese glaze.
- Measuring flour: Spoon the flour into your measuring cup and level it off for accuracy.
- Baking powder: Make sure it’s fresh! Replace it every 6-12 months for the best rise.
- Cinnamon: If you want an authentic Cinnabon flavor, try using Makara cinnamon.
