- 2 cups Cake Flour
- 3/4 cup Sugar
- 2 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 3/4 cup Buttermilk
- 2 Eggs lightly beaten
- 2 tablespoon Butter melted
- 1 teaspoon Orange Extract
- 2 teaspoon Orange Zest
- 1/8 cup fresh squeezed Orange Juice from zested Orange
- Orange Sprinkles
- 2 cups Powdered Sugar
- 4-5 tablespoon Light Whipping Cream
Preheat oven to 350° F
Place the cake flour, sugar and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. Add the buttermilk, eggs, and butter. Mix together. Add the extract, zest and juice. Mix together.
Grease a doughnut pan. Fill each doughnut cavity with batter, about 3/4 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 1/2 -7 minutes. Remove from oven. Take a toothpick around the edges of the pan to loosen the doughnut a little. Let cool for 2 minutes, then remove from pan and cool.
Place all doughnut on a baking sheet, or something similar. This is where they will be iced.
Make the glaze by mixing together the powdered sugar and cream. Add the cream a tablespoon at a time until the glaze is thick but pourable.
Pour the glaze into a small bowl. Drop each doughnut onto the glaze, then lift off, let drip a little, and set back on tray.
Decorate doughnuts with orange sprinkles or jimmies and enjoy!
- Fresh Orange Juice: For the best flavor, use freshly squeezed orange juice in both the dough and the glaze.
- Room Temperature Ingredients: Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother, more consistent dough.
- Resting Time: Allow the dough to rest and rise properly to achieve a light and airy texture.
- Glazing Tips: For a smooth and even glaze, dip the doughnuts while they are slightly warm and let excess glaze drip off before setting.
- Storage: Store any leftover doughnuts in an airtight container at room temperature to keep them fresh and prevent stickiness.
