Honey Walnut Shrimp Panda Express Recipe

Honey Walnut Shrimp Panda Express Recipe

Panda Express Honey Walnut Shrimp is all about crispy shrimp covered in a special batter and mixed with a yummy honey sauce and sweet walnuts. I've been meaning to share this recipe for a while! These shrimp are just right - they're crunchy, sweet, and savory all at once. And those crunchy walnuts? They add such a nice texture! The coolest thing? They're super simple to make. And guess what? Shrimp freezes really well, so you can make a bunch and keep some for later. But remember, not all foods freeze as nicely as shrimp do!

Equipment

  • Medium pan
  • Bowl
  • Frying Pan
  • Paper towels
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients

For glazed walnuts:

  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Walnut halves

For fried shrimp:

  • 1 lb Small raw shrimp peeled and deveined
  • ½ tsp Onion powder
  • ½ tsp Garlic powder
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp ground Black pepper
  • ¼ cup Cornstarch
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the sauce:

  • ¼ cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp chopped Scallions

Instructions

  • First, let's make the glazed walnuts. Heat up a pan and toss in brown sugar, water, and walnut halves. Let them boil until the sugar gets thick, but make sure not to burn them. Then, spread the walnuts on parchment paper to cool off and dry.
  • Now, let's season the shrimp! Sprinkle onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper on the shrimp. Roll them in cornstarch and fry them up in batches until they're curled and golden. Put them aside when they're done.
  • In a bowl, mix together mayonnaise, sweetened condensed milk, honey, and lemon juice to make the sauce. Set it aside for now.
  • Time to bring everything together! Combine the fried shrimp and glazed walnuts in a big bowl. Pour the sauce over them and give it all a good mix until everything is coated nicely.
  • Last but not least, sprinkle some chopped scallions on top for a fresh kick, and your dish is ready to serve!

Notes

  • Make the nuts first let them get crunchier as they cool.
  • You can prepare the nuts ahead of time and store them in a container.
  • Remember to thaw the shrimp before cooking.
  • Dry the shrimp well with paper towels before frying to make them crispy.
  • Fry the shrimp in batches to keep them crispy.
  • The cornstarch coating won't turn very golden, but the shrimp will still be crunchy.
  • This recipe has a light sauce to cut down on calories, but feel free to make more sauce if you like it saucier!
