Ingredients

  • ½ tsp  Smoked paprika
  • 1 Raw jicama
  • ½ tsp Garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • ¼ tsp Black pepper freshly ground
  • ½ tsp Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt or any other salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F. Lightly grease a ceramic or glass baking dish, or use a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Peel the jicama and cut it into ¼-inch-thick fries.
  • Alternatively, you can use pre-sliced jicama strips found at stores like Whole Foods and Kroger.
  • Place the jicama strips in a microwave-safe bowl with ¼ cup of water. Cover and microwave for 8 minutes, stirring gently halfway through.
  • If using a large jicama, you might need up to 10 minutes, but 8 minutes is usually sufficient.
  • Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave using oven mitts, as it will be hot and steam will escape when uncovering.
  • Transfer the jicama strips to paper towels to dry.
  • In a large bowl, toss the partially cooked jicama fries with olive oil, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
  • Ensure they are evenly coated.
  • Arrange the seasoned jicama fries in a single layer on the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake for about 40 minutes, or until they are browned and tender-crisp.
