- 2 big Bunches of collard greens about 8 cups, torn into pieces
- 2 Ham hocks or shanks
- 12 oz. pack Bacon cooked and sliced, keep the drippings
- 3 tbsp Bacon drippings Optional
- 1 tbsp Brown sugar
- 3 cups Chicken broth
- 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Pepper
- 1/4 tsp Red pepper flakes
Put collard greens in the slow cooker.
Place ham hocks or shanks on top.
Add cooked bacon, bacon drippings, brown sugar, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
Cover and cook on HIGH for 4 hours or LOW for 7-8 hours, until the greens are tender. Keep the lid on.
Take out ham hocks or shanks, shred any meat, and add back to greens. Stir.
Serve with broth and your favorite southern sides.
