Halloween Monster Burgers
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- Skillet
- Baking parchment
- Toothpicks
- Small bowl for sauce
Ingredients
For the burger patties:
- 1 pound 450g ground beef
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
For frying:
- 4 tablespoons cooking oil
- For the mayo sauce:
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 4 teaspoons ketchup
For assembling monster burgers:
- 4 hamburger buns
- 8 leaves baby romaine lettuce 2 per bun
- 4 slices cheese see note
- 4 tablespoons ketchup or to taste
- 4 dill pickle slices sliced lengthwise
- 8 large green olives pitted
Instructions
Making the Burger Patties:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, thyme, egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix thoroughly using your hands or a fork until the seasoning is evenly distributed.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten them on a tray lined with parchment paper to form large, thin patties. Press a slight dent in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
Cooking the Patties:
- Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your preferred doneness. Alternatively, you can grill or oven-bake them (see note).
Making the Mayo Sauce:
- In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise and ketchup until smooth. This will be your sauce for the burger.
Assembling the Monster Burgers:
- Spread about 1 tablespoon of the mayo sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Add two leaves of romaine lettuce and a cooked burger patty.
- Place a slice of dill pickle on top of the patty, then add the cheese slice. For the monster effect, cut triangles out of the cheese slice to resemble teeth. Spread about 1 tablespoon of ketchup on top to look like “blood.”
- Cover with the top bun.
- To finish, stick two green olives onto toothpicks and place them on the top bun to resemble eyes.
Serve and Enjoy:
- Serve immediately and enjoy these spooky monster burgers with your favorite sides!
Notes
- Burger Patties: You can substitute with store-bought patties for convenience, but homemade ones add a great personal touch.
- Buns: Any type of hamburger bun works well. Feel free to toast them for extra flavor.
- Cheese Slices: Use a white or yellow cheese like cheddar or Swiss, which can easily be cut into triangle shapes for “monster teeth.”
- Cooking Patties: For a grilled option, cook patties on medium heat for about 4-5 minutes per side. In the oven, bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 10-12 minutes or until fully cooked.
