Mexican Marinade

Mexican Marinade is a flavorful blend of lime juice, olive oil, garlic, cumin, chili powder, and oregano. This aromatic mixture infuses meat with the bold, zesty essence of Mexico, perfect for grilled chicken, steak, or pork. The acidity and spices work together to tenderize and add depth to the dish.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Freshly sqeezed large lime
  • 1 tsp Red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin

Instructions

  • Combine the marinade ingredients in a bowl and whisk until smooth, ensuring that all the flavors are well incorporated.
  • Next, place your choice of meat (such as chicken, beef, or pork) into a large, resealable storage bag.
  • Pour the marinade mixture over the meat, making sure that it's fully coated.
  • Then, take a few minutes to massage the bag gently, working the marinade deep into the meat to ensure even flavor penetration.
  • Finally, seal the bag and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours or overnight, allowing the meat to absorb all the delicious flavors of the marinade.
  • The longer you marinate, the more tender and flavorful your meat will be.

Notes

You can refrigerate the meat for up to 24 hours, allowing the flavors to meld and penetrate deeply into the meat. You can also combine the marinade with the meat. Simply thaw the meat overnight in the refrigerator before cooking, and proceed with your recipe as usual.

What Is Marinade Used For?

mexican marinade

A marinade’s acidity helps break down the proteins in meat, denaturing it and creating pockets for flavors to penetrate. This process also tenderizes tough cuts of meat, making it more palatable and flavorful.

Can Marinade Preserve The Meat?

Marinade is not only a flavor enhancer, but also a preservation method that helps extend the shelf life of meat. By adding liquids infused with flavorings, spices, and functional additives, marination helps to prevent spoilage and maintain meat quality.

What Is The Secret Of A Good Marinade?

For a good marinade, it’s essential to strike a balance between salt and herbs. The higher the salt concentration, the more herbs and spices you need to add depth and flavor to your meat.
